Color Theory Standard is a great product for artists who want a simple but powerful design aid.
Something to keep in mind when you're purchasing Color Theory is that the Standard version does not support image loading.
For some artists, this is not an issue. But, many of you will wish to do exact color matching. You will find that the color values you sample using, lets say, the Eyedropper tool in Photoshop are different between sampling directly within the Photoshop Theory plugin, and sampling an image exported from Color Theory Standard.
Overview of Tools
Though its functions are sophisticated, Color Theory's interface is actually quite simple.
• Pop up the Formula box to choose a color relationship. Then hit the Randomize Edit button to cycle the hue, brightness, and saturation of that relationship.
• The Foreground section is where you pick your input colors for Color Theory to base its formulas on. This is also where you can load in a graphic, if you have Theory Pro.
• The Formula popup menu contains 18 base RYB color formulas. Color Theory finds you the exact Hue, Lightness and Saturation. You can then tweak the shades and tints.
• Each time you click the Randomize Button, it varies the Lightness and Saturation of the color swatches. This is a good way to quickly see various shades and tints, which can then be fine-tuned in the Edit row.
• Swatches in the Result row contain up to six colors derived from the formula chosen. The Result Row is then generated from the Foreground Color and the Formula.
